This course provides essential information for candidates preparing to take a certified qualification in the Safe Use of Pesticides such as the LANTRA Level 2 Award or City and Guilds PA1.

Successfully undertaking this course will enable you to:

  • Understand your legal responsibilities and become a safe and competent pesticide user
  • Understand what pesticides are and their ‘field of use’ or ‘industry sector’
  • State the legislation relevant to pesticide application
  • Interpret and use label information
  • Take appropriate action to protect individuals and the environment
  • Store and transport pesticides safely
  • Dispose of pesticides and containers safely
  • Accurately record information.

Comprising ten lessons, the course covers the key topics in the Safe Use of Pesticides, while also offering candidates opportunities to test their knowledge in preparation for the assessment. Quizzes are designed to help keep you engaged and identify any gaps in your learning as you move through the course.

  2. Consequences of NOT safely using or handling pesticides
  3. Pesticide legislation and operator responsibilities
  4. Interpreting pesticide product labels
  5. Personal Safety & Protective Equipment
  6. Safe storage and transport of pesticides
  7. Environmental risks when using pesticides
  8. Disposal of pesticides and containers
  9. Emergency procedures
  10. Record keeping for pesticides.

Lesson structures

At the start of each lesson there is an overview of the ‘Lesson purpose’ and the ‘Learning outcome.’

The ‘Lesson purpose’ explains aims, the topics it covers and what candidates are expected to learn.
The ‘Learning outcome’ is what you need to know, understand and/or be able to do at the end of the course.

This course is not assessed – it is designed to support your learning in preparation for taking the actual exam accredited by bodies such as LANTRA and City and Guilds. There are a variety of options when choosing your exam including an online assessment with LANTRA or on-site exams offered by other training providers and accredited by awarding organisations such as City and Guilds.

We recommend only booking your exam when you are confident that you have sufficiently understood the pre-learning content provided in this course.

This course is available to access for four months from the purchasing date allowing plenty of time to learn the material, book your exam and achieve your qualification in the Safe Use of Pesticides.

At the end of this pre-learning course, you will have the option to download a certificate from your account profile as proof that you have completed all the lessons. NOTE: This is NOT a qualification, it is evidence that you have done the pre-learning required prior to taking the appropriate exam.

We suggest you use a PC or laptop and do not attempt to complete the training on a mobile phone. We recommend making a few notes as you progress through the course and ensure you download, read and save all the relevant documents.
